Vegan Night at Boadicea

May 25, 2017

On Monday 8th May we held out first vegan night. After noticing an increasing amount of people selecting plant-based options and requesting vegan alternatives, we decided to experiment with a 6-course taster menu, but together by head chef Steve Angier. Immediately after announcing the event, we received a large amount of enquiries from people excited to try something different and were pleasantly surprised with the eventual turn out.

The menu comprised of 6 tasting dishes; Carrot & cumin salad with hazlenut dukkha, corn chowder with girolles & home-made corn bread, confit sweet potato with rosemary & wild garlic, spiced falafel with roasted courgettes, chilled watermelon with coriander and rhubarb with granny smith sorbet and pistachio. We were also happy to serve a selection of vegan-friendly wines and cocktails. Who knew many wines and beers contained animal products!?

It was interesting to hear that many people were not necessarily vegan or vegetarian, but liked the idea of an exciting, one-off menu. Those that followed a vegan diet also commented on how the menu was exciting and innovative, where most vegan menus are bland and unimaginative. Having a 6 course tasting menu allowed for our guests to experience a sample of different tastes and satisfy the palette, with the watermelon cooler leaving just enough room for the dessert!

As always, all produce is ordered in fresh and cooked from scratch on-site, meaning the best possible freshness and taste. Our chefs had great fun experimenting with different foods and are excited to have created a new menu for the next event, which we expect to only grow in popularity. All dishes are able to also be made gluten-free!Our next vegan event is on Monday 5th June and we have very limited spaces already.
